Urban Culture

TITLE:

Kite Flying

BACKGROUND

A kite is a tethered aircraft. The necessary lift that makes the kite wing fly is generated when air flows over and under the kite's wing. It is generally accepted that kites were first developed in approximately 2,800 years ago in China, where materials ideal for kite building were readily available: silk fabric for sail material; fine, high-tensile-strength silk for flying line; and resilient bamboo for a strong, lightweight framework. Kites have been used for scientific purposes, such as Benjamin Franklin's famous experiment proving that lightning is electricity. Kites were the precursors to the traditional aircraft, and were instrumental in the development of early flying craft.

Kite flying is popular in many Asian countries, where it often takes the form of 'kite fighting', in which participants try to snag each other's kites or cut other kites down. Fighter kites are usually small, flat, flattened diamond-shaped kites made of paper and bamboo. Tails are not used on fighter kites so that agility and maneuverability are not compromised.

PROBLEM INDENTIFICATION

Kites are aircraft that is very popular during last time, but nowadays generation has forgotten about that.
People are more concentrate on indoor and outdoor games that are very popular.
Changes of time, has make people forget about they traditional culture.
They have been influences by other cultures
No proper guides by parents.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE

To create awareness on traditional games.
In order to create better understanding of the background of kite craft.
Creating chance to young generation to play this game.
Creativity in making kite.

MOTIVATION

In this project I would like to study and create an opportunity on how people should follow up with our traditional games. Besides that, reasonable reason has to make up to make people not forget about our traditional culture. It has encouraged me to gather information from static and old generation.

There is no proper place for young generation to play kites.
Last time we can see in fields a lot of will be playing kites but nowadays less and even in some place we can see at all.

IDEATION AND CONCEPT

This idea of this project is to teach people on the benefit of following up the traditional culture games that have been forgotten by young generation. Our Malaysian people should be educated with the cultures that we need to follow up.
